Description

Snam S.p.A., an Italian entity with a significant international footprint, specializes in critical natural gas infrastructure. Its primary operations span Natural Gas Transportation, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Regasification, and Natural Gas Storage. The company facilitates the movement and distribution of natural gas across approximately 32,700 kilometers of high- and medium-pressure pipelines, simultaneously providing dispatching services. It also owns and manages facilities for the regasification of liquefied natural gas. Snam delivers natural gas storage solutions through a comprehensive network of infrastructure, which includes geological deposits, wells, gas treatment and compression systems, and advanced operational dispatching technologies. This service is supported by nine storage concessions within Italy, specifically five in Lombardy, three in Emilia-Romagna, and one in Abruzzo. Beyond its core gas activities, Snam diversifies its portfolio with offerings such as the leasing and upkeep of fiber optic telecommunication cables. It also provides integrated services for natural gas-powered vehicles, develops energy efficiency solutions for diverse sectors—including residential, industrial, commercial, and public administration—and manages biogas and biomethane production plants. Furthermore, the company extends its expertise through engineering and project management services, alongside overseeing infrastructure planning. While headquartered in San Donato Milanese, Italy, Snam's operational reach extends to numerous countries, including Albania, Austria, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Established in 1941, the company was formerly known as Snam Rete Gas S.p.A. before adopting its current name, Snam S.p.A., in January 2012.
