Headquartered in Ayabe, Japan, Gunze Limited, which originated in 1896 as Gunze Silk Manufacturing Co., Ltd. before adopting its current name in 1967, operates primarily across three core business areas: functional solutions, apparel, and lifestyle creations. In its functional solutions sector, Gunze manufactures a broad spectrum of plastic films, encompassing shrink, flexible multilayer, functional and multilayer film tubings, OPP, and nylon varieties, in addition to offering expert consulting on complete packaging systems. This segment also delivers specialized engineering plastics, including miniature fluoro resin heat-shrinkable tubes, thin-walled fluoro resin tubes, fiber-based products, films, sheets, and continuous belts. Furthermore, Gunze produces electronic components like various touch screens and specialized functional films, alongside providing contract manufacturing services. Its medical materials portfolio features bioabsorbable surgical sutures, bone fixation devices, artificial dermis, absorbable reinforcement felt, and medical stockings. The company also supplies essential equipment for packaging, film wrapping, printing post-press, and processes within the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, dairy, beverage, and food industries. The apparel division crafts comfortable innerwear, legwear, nightwear, and casual home wear, designed to promote physical and mental well-being. It also provides a wide assortment of threads and accessories, from sewing threads for garments to those used in industrial and automotive settings. Gunze's lifestyle creations segment is highly diversified. It manages a network of 22 Gunze sports clubs, fitness studios, spas, and junior schools. The company sells gardening requisites such as plant materials, nursery trees, flowers, and related products. Its real estate ventures include developing commercial properties and leasing shopping complexes, residential units, and office buildings. Moreover, Gunze actively promotes energy efficiency through offering technology, equipment, and funding for conservation initiatives, alongside supplying thermal insulation materials and solar power generation systems.
