Description

IHI Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a diversified heavy industry manufacturer with global operations spanning several critical sectors. The company's business activities are broadly categorized into resources, energy, and environmental solutions; social infrastructure and offshore facilities; industrial systems and general-purpose machinery; and aerospace, space, and defense. In the energy and environmental sector, IHI focuses on carbon reduction technologies, manufactures gas and diesel engines for both terrestrial and marine applications (including high-speed vessels), and develops and constructs liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminals and storage facilities, as well as equipment for various industrial plants. The company undertakes the construction of complex processing plants for natural gas liquefaction, oil refining, petrochemicals, and LPG. It is also active in the nuclear industry, developing fuel cycle systems and supplying essential components for boiling and pressurized water reactors. Its infrastructure endeavors include building bridges and steel structures, manufacturing water gates for rivers and dams, and providing concrete construction materials. IHI delivers advanced technological solutions such as 3D laser radar and X-ray inspection systems, environmental monitoring devices, disaster prevention equipment, oil leak detectors, and sophisticated vibration control and seismic isolation flooring systems. The company specializes in tunneling machinery, including shield tunneling machines and automated segment assembly systems, alongside comprehensive transportation solutions. Within its offshore facilities segment, IHI supplies LPG/LEG storage tanks, floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) units for LNG/LPG, and large-scale marine structures like semi-submersible rigs and mega-floats. Furthermore, the company engages in real estate activities, encompassing property leasing, sales, and residential development. A vast array of industrial machinery and equipment is also manufactured, including compressors, cryogenic solutions, logistics and materials handling systems, steelmaking equipment, marine machinery, vehicle turbochargers, various separators, lubrication systems, pulp and paper machinery, agricultural machinery, parking systems, boilers, and other essential life-support equipment. It extends its expertise to factory optimization, heat treatment, and surface engineering solutions. In the aerospace and defense domains, IHI provides aero engines, air traffic control systems, and comprehensive rocket and space exploration technologies. Established in 1853, the company was originally known as Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., before rebranding as IHI Corporation in 2007.
