Description

Sumitomo Corporation operates as a diversified global trading company, conducting business across numerous sectors worldwide. Its extensive operations are categorized into six core segments: Metal Products; Transportation & Construction Systems; Infrastructure; Media & Digital; Living Related & Real Estate; and Mineral Resources, Energy, Chemical & Electronics. The company's Metal Products division handles steel sheets and tubular goods. Through its Transportation & Construction Systems segment, Sumitomo is involved in manufacturing, leasing, selling, servicing, and financing various assets, including ships, aircraft, motor vehicles, construction equipment, and their associated parts. Within Infrastructure, Sumitomo develops and executes renewable energy projects, encompassing power generation, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), alongside electricity retail. This segment also manages industrial facilities, water systems, transportation networks, urban infrastructure, airports, smart city initiatives, environmental solutions, storage battery technologies, industrial park development, insurance arrangements, and logistics services. The Media & Digital sector covers cable television, 5G-related innovations, content distribution (including programming, movies, digital media, and video), TV shopping, and e-commerce. It further extends to mobile communication, ICT platforms, digital solutions, venture capital investments, and smart communication infrastructure. Sumitomo's Living Related & Real Estate interests include operating food supermarkets and drugstore chains, trading cement and building materials, and undertaking various real estate developments. Finally, the Mineral Resources, Energy, Chemical & Electronics segment is deeply engaged in the development and trading of a vast array of commodities. These include coal, iron ore, manganese, uranium, non-ferrous and precious metals, petroleum, natural gas, and liquefied natural gas, alongside commodity derivative transactions. This segment also facilitates the trade of diverse products such as non-ferrous metal products, liquefied petroleum gas, storage batteries, carbon products, plastics, a variety of organic and inorganic chemicals, silicon wafers, LEDs, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural and veterinary supplies. Additionally, it undertakes investment activities and provides electronics manufacturing services. Sumitomo Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, was established in 1919.
